Russia is going to increase its contribution to world space activity from the current 10% to 15% to become the leading space-exploring nation and a player on the space service market.
This came in a statement for the Cuban mass media by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.According to him, Russia has adopted a programme of space research until the year 2020, with some 60 billion dollars earmarked for the purpose.

On Monday, Canada is to launch the world’s first orbital telescope for asteroid surveillance, media reports said.
The 65-kg satellite will be put into orbit with the help of an Indian booster, due to be launched from the Shriharikota cosmodrome in the Bay of Bengal later in the day.The satellite is designed to scan outer space for asteroids that pose potential threat to Earth.

Another round of talks on Iran’s nuclear problem is getting under way in the Kazakh city of Almaty later today. Taking part are the six international mediators (the five UN Security Council permanent member-states plus Germany), and the delegation of Iran.
The parties to the talks will focus on Tehran’s ongoing effort to enrich uranium.The western nations are pressing Iran to give up the effort, since uranium, enriched to 20%, could be used by Iran to manufacture a nuclear bomb. But Tehran claims that its programme is exclusively peaceful in character and that it needs uranium as fuel for its research reactor.

The world web is defenseless against the ingenious hacker. A series of cyber attacks against major US Internet resources at the beginning of February demonstrated that hackers are gradually reorienting cyber attacks to serve as geopolitical weapons. After Facebook reported that it had come under a “sophisticated hacker attack”, western media outlets said Chinese hackers had a hand in it.
According to IT expert Vladimir Konev, the Chinese could well have been involved considering their passion for illegal use of foreign IT technologies."China has often been blamed for hacking Internet resources in order to steal data. It has an extensive network of programming and hacking schools."

Journalists for Ariana TV, Hevad, Zhwandoon TV, as well as a freelance reporter for the AFP new agency have been injured in a clash with security officers while trying to cover the aftermath of the double attack in Jalalabad.
The journalists said they would submit a complaint to the province’s governor.At least 3 people were killed in two suicide car bombings in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday morning.

Baby without face delivered at Bombay Hospital

In a rare instance, a stillborn without facial features and only one lower limb was delivered at Bombay Hospital in Marine Lines.
The baby was one of twins delivered by a woman. The other is a normal male.The stillborn had only the abdomen and a lower limb. It did not have separately formed face or facial features.

UFOs spotted near the International Space Station (VIDEO)

Since the beginning of 2013, numerous UFOs have been spotted in space near the International Space Station (ISS), a couple of hundred miles above Earth. Videos have appeared on YouTube showing images taken by NASA cameras of objects of different shapes, some moving very slowly, others rapidly hurtling through space.
YouTube user “Streetcap1” shared two videos in which unidentified silver objects were moving slowly near the curvature of the Earth, and two objects, one circular, the other disc-shape, were outside the ISS on New Year's Day.

India has started the manufacturing of a scaled-down model of the BrahMos Russian-Indian supersonic missile.
The new missile will weigh 1.5 tons; it will be some 6 metres long and will boast a range of approximately 290 kilometres.The missile is meant for the Indian Air Force, and is due to be test-fired in a matter of 18 months to 24 months.

Pentagon suspends all F-35 flights due to crack in engine blade

The Pentagon on Friday suspended the flights of all F-35 fighter planes after a routine inspection revealed a crack on a turbine blade in the jet engine of an F-35 test aircraft in California.
The F-35 program office said it was to early to know the fleet-wide impact of the engine issue, but it was suspending all flights until an investigation into the issue was completed.It said it was working closely with Pratt & Whitney, the United Technologies Corp unit which builds the engine for the fighter, and Lockheed Martin Corp, the prime contractor for the radar-evading warplane, to ensure the integrity of the engine and return the F-35 fleet to flight as soon as possible.

A New Zealand woman consumed 10 liters of Coca-Cola every day, which eventually played its role in her death, according to a local coroner’s statement released today, a news agency is reporting. The soft drink producer should warn people about health consequences, the coroner says.
Natasha Harris, a 30-year-old woman from New Zealand, drank not less than 10 liters of the fizzy drink every day for years before her death, coroner David Crerar found.He said the woman suffered from a number of health conditions, but her Coke habit was the major factor that aggravated the situation and she finally died of the cardiac arrhythmia in February 2010.

Russia and Italy are resuming their joint development S-1000 submarine, which is an export version of the Amur class submarine. The joint development is between Rubin Design Bureau of Russia and Fincantieri of Italy.
Although the main global producers of submarines such as Germany, France and Russia continue to receive stable revenues by exporting their submarines, the development of modern models is becoming more sophisticated. This often requires cooperation with other countries. Cooperation also enables the partners to make development and production less expensive. In conditions where more and more countries are planning to create or upgrade their own submarine fleet the Russian-Italian project on building the S-1000 submarine promises to become a profitable enterprise for both countries.The idea of creating a joint Russian-Italian submarine emerged in the late 1990-s. The actual development of the 1000-tons heavy submarine began in 2004. In 2008, the work was interrupted because of the global economic crisis. However, today the situation looks more optimistic with the growing demand for submarines in the Asian-Pacific region.

On February 15, asteroid DA14, which is as big as half of a football field, will pass Earth at a distance of 28,000 km, within the ring of geostationary orbits. This is the largest asteroid that will pass so close from Earth since the scientific observations over dangerous space objects started in the 1990-s.
With DA14 flying to Earth discussions have resumed on how to fight asteroid danger.On February 1, the European Space Agency (ESA) began to accept technical proposals on how to redirect dangerous space objects away from the Earth.

Miraculous: 9-Year-Old Gives Birth To Baby
Authorities are hunting for the baby's 17-year-old father after the girl fell pregnant aged just eight and gave birth last week.
The baby was born on January 27 in Mexico's western Jalisco state.
"We are looking for the young man to get his story because she does not understand what has happened. This is a rape or child sex abuse case," Jorge Villasenor, from the state prosecutor's office, was quoted as saying.
The girl and her baby were discharged from hospital and are believed to be doing well.
However, the hospital said it would have to do extensive follow-up due to the mother's age.

Yemeni troops shot dead a southern separatist on Saturday in clashes that erupted when activists blocked roads during a protest in the main port city of Aden, medics and activists said.
"One man was killed and two others were wounded by gunfire," a medic at Aden's Al-Naqib hospital told AFP on condition of anonymity.Activists from the separatist Southern Movement confirmed the victims belonged to their group which calls for autonomy or the complete independence of the south.
