For the surgery, the 14-year-old monkey named Elsa was brought from a zoo in Krasnoyarsk - another Siberian city which is a thousand kilometers away from Novosibirsk. The zoo staff had lately noticed that something was disturbing the monkey. She had become less mobile, rarely ever moving from enclosure to enclosure. Even at the zoo, the doctors had diagnosed Elsa with "cataract”.
