Is It Better to Join the Course Trade Union?

Joining of trade union by the employees is an important decision. We can find members of trade unions everywhere or we can simple say that most of the employees are a part of trade unions. Promoting the industrial democracy is the major objective of trade unions. It is said that trade union is a worker’s organization and working for the workers, but practically this union is governed by few people politically. All decisions are centralized, and empty positions are mostly filled by the nominations. Elections are mostly postponed by the leaders.Union leaders show their authoritative behavior, using traits of less openness, transparency and participation. Files are treated with the excessive indulgence with promises and very rarely get near to the process of decision making. When political parties start interfering in the policies, the position gets worse. Sometimes some outside leaders starts guiding the unions and makes it worse. Due to the absence of democratic leadership policy the effectiveness of these unions is reducing. It also prevents the trade union development within the industries.
These organizations provide a common platform to ideas, views, aims, status and feeling among the workers. Trade unions help in unity of workers and provide them secured working conditions. They help workers to provide them better career opportunities and good economic compensations. Trade unions also provide protections against the misfortune of death, social security and accident after the retirement. They can also restrict the actions of management which are not in the welfare of their workers.
If we talk about internal functions of the labor union then it will include the reasonable work, ensures better working conditions and better claims for wages. Conducting games, night schools, recreational activities and sports, come under the external functions. We can group these two functions as the social and economic functions. Elections are the best way to capture the political powers for many of the unions. And they also try to influence the policies and programmers in favor of workers. This function is generally known by the name of political function. These functions are interpreted with the help of laws.
These organizations improve the living standard and the working conditions of the employees. Workers need security and these organizations provide this security. Political status is also improved by the efforts of these unions. They also help the management by providing them a good quality of employment. They help workers by improving their skills and confidence building and self-respect among the workers.
Management thinks unionism is the anathema and as long as they continue to remain on this thought there will be a lack of mutual trust and harmony between the labor force and management. Instead of this, managements should see these unions as a partner who work with management and work for them. For the workers of trade unions, work is worship, and they always work for the success of the organization. They are trained to work in teams and therefore, they work with the team spirit.
